NTC- Manila is responsible for project management in the Norwegian Ship-Owners association joint venture project with China Shipping Group (CSG) / Shanghai Maritime Academy (SMA). Norwegian Ship-Owners Association through cooperation with Shanghai Maritime Academy began in 1999 to train Cadets to serve onboard the Norwegian controlled fleet. During these 4 years more than 300 Cadets have been taken into the Cadets Program, with 50 /50 distribution on deck and engine education. The Cadets undergo a structured 3 years education at the academy inclusive of 1 year sea service onboard Norwegian controlled vessels, before they can receive their diploma. An additional 1 year sea service is required to qualify them to get their 3rd mate license. For more info: Career Matrix for Maritime Academies in China Career Matrix Maritime Universities CSG / SMA and Norwegian Ship-Owners Association also built up a firefighting and safety training center north of Shanghai. At this center safety courses at in the STCW convention are offered. SMA also offer other courses like GMDSS (Telenor approved), Welding, Bridge Recourse Management, Safety Courses amongst others.
