Objectives of the Program

1. To provide a steady supply of qualified cadets motivated to meet the standards of modern shipping;

2. To establish competence base training and skills development program  that can address the immediate demands of clients and Maritime Industry, in general;

3. To provide client centered cadet resource management program for the supply of future manpower needs of the Principal;

To provide customers a comprehensive training program patterned after the successful NIS/NSA Cadet Program in the Philippines.

Entry criteria

The candidate must be 16 - 22 years old, single, not less than 163 cm in height, at least a High School Graduate with above average grades, naturally born Filipino Citizen, physically and mentally fit, and of good moral character with no derogatory records.

The candidate must pass all pre-selection test, the Ability Profile Test (APRO), English, Math and Science Proficiency Test, and an Oral interview conducted by NTC-M. 

Program Structure and Content

This program is 2-1-1 (two years in school - 1 year sea time  - 1 year at school) and leads to the Degree of Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation or Marine Engineering.

Phase 1:

Two (2) years Academic Education in an accredited and established Maritime Universities in the Philippines.  This phase includes an integrated training and upgrading program designed and provided by Norwegian Training Center - Manila.

Phase 2:

One (1) year or 12 months sea time - on-the-job shipboard training on board Principals’ vessel.  NTC-M provides and monitors a structured shipboard training program while Cadets are exposed to shipboard task, work and operations during this phase.

Phase 3:

Cadets return to school for one (1) year and completes his Bachelors Degree in Marine Transportation or Marine Engineering.  This phase leads to qualify him for the Licensure Examination as OIC.  Completion of his twelve (12) months sea time is a requisite.

Integrated Training Program:

NTC-M designs and develops the training program patterned to the experience of NSA Philippines Cadet Program.  Customers can benefit the experience, network and infrastructure of NTC-M had during the past decade.  A total of over 30 training and upgrading courses and seminars are incorporated on top of the National curriculum.
