The entire training program has been developed in close cooperation with the shipping industry, with an eye on future demands related to human resource development. More courses are under study, combining theoretical and practical training designed to meet the IMO and ILO conventions.
NTC-M is essentially an international learning institution operated by a multi-cultural teaching staff composed of seagoing experienced lecturers from Norway, Holland, Australia and the Philippines. Most of the Filipino instructors are senior merchant marine officers who have alternating assignments either as lecturers or on seagoing service.
To be in the forefront of maritime education and training, some major suppliers to the shipping industry collaborate with NTC-M in the preparation of training programs exclusively related to their own products and equipment. Among these companies are:
with training courses concerning, among others, welding, oil cargo pumps, fuel treatment systems and diesel engines. Hands-on training is provided, conducted by specialized instructors and relevant equipment from the manufacturers. Computer-based training (CBT) and simulators are also used.
Since its foundation in 1990, NTC-M has had a remarkable number of annual student enrollment and graduation. All participants are nominated and subsidized by their respective employers and companies.
NTC-M also serves as the secretariat and project manager for various development projects funded by ATEP (ASO* Training and Education Project).
Continuous support programs are also introduced progressively in areas of the Norwegian concept of ship management and manpower training suited to Norwegian-flagged and/or controlled vessels.
*ASO is the acronym in Norwegian for the Norwegian Shipping and Offshore Federation.
